The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that air defense shot down 158 Ukrainian drones over Russia last night. Their targets were mainly energy facilities near the capital. The drones fell just 9 miles from the Kremlin. Terrified by the attack, Russians are sharing its progress online.

Despite multiple appeals from authorities and services, Russians massively posted recordings and photos of the ongoing attack on Moscow. The internet was flooded with dozens of videos showing drones heading to the capital of Russia.

Massive attack on Russia

Russians claim that they shot down as many as 158 drones (as of 1 AM Eastern Time). When the announcement was published, many drones were still in the Russian sky, so this tally is not final.

The most, a staggering 46 unmanned aerial vehicles, were shot down over the Kursk region, 34 over Bryansk, 28 over Voronezh, 14 over Belgorod, seven over the Moscow region, and two over Moscow itself.

Moscow refineries attacked

The drones' targets were Russian power plants and refineries, mainly around Moscow and the capital. At this moment, it is known that fires broke out at the Konakovo District State Power Plant (north of Moscow), Kashira District State Power Plant (south of Moscow), and in the capital of Russia: the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district (administrative region).

The first recordings of the attack on Moscow appeared early in the morning.

More followed at dawn. Russians posted online about a ruptured gas pipeline near Konakovo.

Muscovites who looked out their windows in the morning saw plumes of smoke rising above the Moscow refinery.

Social media was flooded with recordings of drones flying toward the capital of Russia.

One of the drones crashed near Moscow, hitting a private building. No one was killed. The moment of impact was captured on recording.
