Chinese hackers target Trump and Vance in phone breach

Chinese hackers broke into the phones of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, the Republican candidates for president and vice president of the USA, as reported by "The New York Times" on Friday. From the information obtained by the newspaper, it is not known whether any confidential data was stolen from the devices.

According to the NYT, Trump's campaign team was informed this week that he and Vance were among the individuals whose devices were attacked by infiltrating the Verizon cellular network system.

The newspaper noted that some of the attacked devices belonged to people in President Joe Biden's administration.

Chinese infiltration

Earlier this year, U.S. agencies identified a hacker group linked to China known as Salt Typhoon that was operating within domestic cellular network systems.

However, the newspaper reported that investigators have only recently discovered that specific phone numbers were being targeted.

Reports of Chinese infiltration raise many concerns, especially with the presidential elections on November 5th.

During this campaign, former President Trump's camp was already targeted by Iranian hackers, who attempted to gain access to the contents of Republican members' computers by sending fake emails.
