French Defense Chief fears US may concede to Russia on Ukraine
French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu expressed concerns that the United States might concede to Russia in Ukraine negotiations. He pointed out that Washington has already ruled out sending American troops to Ukraine or supporting its entry into NATO.
Sébastien Lecornu expressed concern in Paris, noting that when President Donald Trump speaks of negotiating and imposing peace through force, there is a fear that such an approach might actually be a sign of weakness.
Commenting on Washington's stance against sending troops to Ukraine and Kyiv's potential NATO membership, Lecornu questioned what alternative plans the U.S. might have in mind.
Lecornu highlighted that Washington's primary focus is on China, which drives its desire to end the war in Ukraine. He also noted that the new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, had informed partners that the United States is unable to handle two conflicts at the same time.
Meanwhile, the special envoy of the U.S. President on Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg, emphasized on Thursday the significant role of Donald Trump in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He also highlighted the importance of European leaders in maintaining lasting peace in the region.
