French Mirage jets join Ukraine's defense by March 2025

French Mirage 2000 fighter jets are set to make their debut in Ukraine during the first quarter of 2025, as reported by the Kyiv Post. This addition marks another Western aircraft joining the ranks of F-16 fighter jets.

The Mirage 2000 jets are expected to appear in Ukrainian skies soon. According to the Kyiv Post, citing a statement from Jean-Noël Barrot, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, these aircraft will join the fight against Russian forces before the end of March 2025.

New support for Ukraine

The Mirage 2000 will become the second Western fighter jet in Ukraine's air fleet, following the arrival of F-16s. These new jets will primarily be used to target Russian missiles and drones, thereby enhancing Ukraine's defensive capabilities.

Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed that Mirage 2000 fighters will be in Ukraine before March 31, 2025. This move marks an important step in strengthening military cooperation between France and Ukraine.

Mirage fighters for Ukraine

The Mirage 2000 is a versatile, single-engine fighter jet created by the French company Dassault Aviation, known for its delta wing design. The aircraft measures over 49 feet in length, with a wingspan of about 30 feet, and is capable of operating at altitudes up to 62,000 feet.

The Mirage 2000-5Fs, intended for Ukraine, were introduced into service in 1991 and represent a significant upgrade in design, featuring a modern cockpit and advanced combat systems. These jets can carry French AASM glide bombs, with which Ukrainian pilots are already familiar. They also come equipped with modern Mica air-to-air missiles. Furthermore, these fighters will be able to transport long-range cruise missiles, including the SCALP-EG and Storm Shadow, provided by France and the United Kingdom.
