Houthis strike us carrier again; American airstrikes hit back
Yemeni Houthi rebels reported another attack on the American aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea.
"For the second time in 24 hours, we attacked the American aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the northern part of the Red Sea using numerous ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. The fights lasted several hours," the Houthi spokesperson stated on social media.
American airstrikes on Al-Hudaydah
In response to the Houthi actions, the United States conducted two airstrikes on the port city of Al-Hudaydah. "The Americans carried out two airstrikes on the Yemeni port city of Al-Hudaydah," reported Al-Masirah TV, associated with the Houthis.
The USA has not yet commented on these reports. It is worth noting that since the fall of 2023, the Houthis have executed over 100 attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, disrupting transport through this crucial maritime route.
Escalation of the conflict
In the Saturday airstrikes by the USA, at least 53 people died, including civilians, and nearly 100 were injured. This was the largest US military operation in the Middle East since Donald Trump resumed the presidency in January 2025. The Houthis announced that, in retaliation, they attacked the American aircraft carrier and its accompanying ships with missiles and a drone.
An anonymous Pentagon official told Reuters that American fighter jets shot down 11 Houthi drones, which did not approach the USS Harry S. Truman. The Houthis are considered a terrorist organization by the West, and their actions are targeted at ships linked to Israel.
International reactions
The USA, Israel, and their allies previously conducted retaliatory strikes on the Houthis. During Joe Biden's presidency, American airstrikes were more targeted operations. Trump announced that he would launch large-scale attacks on Houthi infrastructure. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the airstrikes would continue until the Houthis say they will no longer fire at ships in the Red Sea.
Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi responded that his group would continue to attack American ships until the USA stops its airstrikes on Yemen. In the past, the Houthis also attacked Israel, which was met with strong retaliatory airstrikes. On Sunday, a Houthi missile crashed on the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, and Israeli air forces were put on high alert.
