According to media reports, the Israeli army confirmed that the target of the assault was the Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, highlighting Israel's determination to weaken the influence of this organization in the region.
"In Israel's raid on the southern suburbs of Beirut, several buildings were leveled, and dozens of people have probably died," Al Jazeera journalist Ali Hashem said.
At present, there is no exact information on the number of fatalities or those injured as a result of this tragic event. As reported by Al Jazeera, citing the Lebanese Civil Defense Agency, two bodies were recovered from the rubble of the collapsed buildings.
The attack occurred after Netanyahu's speech
Israeli armed forces spokesman Daniel Hagari earlier said that the military conducted a "precision strike" on Hezbollah's headquarters in the Lebanese capital. The attack occurred shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations General Assembly session in New York, in which he pledged that his country would attack Hezbollah until it achieved its war goals.
According to the Times of Israel website, he met with the media after Netanyahu's speech. Still, he left the press conference early when his press advisor approached him to deliver a message.
