Israeli soldiers charged in shocking abuse case of Palestinian prisoner
The Israeli military prosecutor has charged five soldiers with the brutal abuse of a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman facility.
According to the indictment, the accused assaulted the detainee under their supervision for 15 minutes, repeatedly kicking, stomping, and standing on him. They struck him across his body with batons, dragged him along the ground, and used a taser on him, including on his head. The document also highlighted that the prisoner was blindfolded and restrained, with both his hands and legs shackled during the attack.

One of the accused soldiers also hit the prisoner with a sharp object, causing severe internal injuries. An hour after the attack, the guards transported the bleeding prisoner to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. Doctors found, among other injuries, seven broken ribs and a punctured lung.
The incident occurred on July 5, 2024. The arrest of the suspects sparked protests from right-wing demonstrators who stormed military bases. Among the protesters were extreme right-wing politicians opposing the actions of the military prosecutor's office.
In the Sde Teiman camp in the Negev Desert, many Palestinians were detained following the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip. Human rights organizations raised alarms about poor conditions in the detention facility and the violation of detainees' rights.
