The majority of viewers who watched Tuesday's presidential debate declared current Vice President Kamala Harris the winner. According to the first survey published by CNN, 63 percent of respondents believed that Harris performed better in the debate, while 37 percent sided with Donald Trump. Here is the whole debate.
Interestingly, Harris's performance in Philadelphia exceeded the expectations of many respondents. Before the debate started, the respondents' expectations about who would win were evenly divided – 50 percent to 50 percent. However, after the debate, a significant majority, namely 63 percent, pointed to Kamala Harris as the unequivocal winner, representing a significant shift from pre-debate expectations.
CNN compared the current results to those that appeared after the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. At that time, 67 percent of respondents stated that Trump was the better debater. Meanwhile, a focus group study conducted by CNN with the participation of 13 undecided voters from Pennsylvania – a key state for the election results – found that after the debate, seven of them declared they would vote for Vice President Harris, and four for Trump.
Trump declared his own victory in the debate
Donald Trump announced himself the winner right after the debate, citing unspecified surveys. According to his words, these were supposed to indicate that as many as 90 percent of respondents believed he won the debate. However, he did not provide any specific sources for this information.
