Sarkisyan died in a hospital from the injuries he sustained. The "Ukrainska Pravda" portal reported that Serhiy Shkryabatovsky, a former bodyguard of President Viktor Yanukovych who fled to Russia after his 2014 overthrow, was also injured in the explosion.

Sarkisyan had been wanted for years for his role in organizing the so-called titushky, who attacked participants of the Maidan protests. Since December 2024, he has also wanted to recruit prisoners from correctional facilities in Russian-controlled areas of Donbas to fight against Ukraine.

The explosion occurred in a residential building in the Alye Parusa neighborhood of Moscow.

Attack in Moscow: Leads point to Ukraine

In December, Ukrainian special forces claimed responsibility for an earlier explosion in Moscow, which resulted in the death of General Igor Kirillov, commander of the Russian troops for radiochemical and biological protection.

Kirillov was under sanctions for using chemical weapons during the conflict with Ukraine.
