nizhnekamsk refinery evacuated amid drone threat detection

An evacuation of employees is underway at the Taneco refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russia. In the nearby town of Yelabuga, searchlights illuminate the sky as efforts are made to detect drones. The operation of the nearby airport has also been suspended.

Before 9 a.m. Eastern Time, the Federal Air Transport Agency announced that "temporary restrictions" had been imposed at the airport in Nizhnekamsk. Allegedly, this is related to Ukrainian drones flying over the region.

Restrictions have also been implemented at the airport in Izhevsk.

Evacuation of the Taneco refinery

Shortly after, alarm sirens sounded at the Taneco refinery in Nizhnekamsk as well, prompting an urgent evacuation. In footage released by the Baza channel, dozens of employees can be seen leaving the facility.

The alarm was also heard in nearby Yelabuga. Residents noticed searchlights in the sky, assisting air defense in shooting down drones.

Residents are to remain indoors

Residents received messages from the Ministry of Emergency Situations advising them to stay indoors and avoid approaching windows.

These localities are located approximately 746 miles from the Ukrainian border.
