North Korean troops retreat from Kursk after heavy losses
North Korean soldiers have withdrawn from the front line in the Kursk region, according to the Ukrainian military. The Koreans suffered significant losses as a result of the clashes.
- The Russians are standing, working everywhere along the frontline, but no Koreans, - says a Ukrainian soldier with the pseudonym "Puls" to Sky News. He notes that this situation has persisted for two weeks.
The Koreans' withdrawal may be related to the losses they incurred during the fighting. Some estimates suggest that up to 4,000 soldiers were either killed or wounded. Meanwhile, Ukrainians have intercepted Russian communications indicating that the Koreans might return to the front.
Koreans do not want to be captured
"Puls" added that the Koreans do not want to be captured by the Ukrainians and sometimes detonate grenades to avoid capture. They also attempt to recover the bodies of fallen comrades.
According to the Ukrainians, soldiers from North Korea were caught off guard by the realities of modern warfare. They were unfamiliar with threats such as drones. Their movement in large groups made them easier targets.
"Puls" also highlights the lack of coordination between the Russians and North Koreans due to a language barrier. In one instance, a misunderstanding reportedly led the Koreans to strike Russian positions.
