Orban: Europe cannot finance the war in Ukraine

According to him, two years after the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine brought enormous harm to the European Union and Hungary.

Had Trump emerged victorious in the 2020 U.S. presidential election (editor’s note), the last two challenging years might have been avoided, as there likely wouldn't have been a war. We are now bearing the significant consequences of this situation, he stated.

Orban's government has long openly supported Trump in the presidential elections, and he repeatedly praised him during public appearances. On Wednesday, Orban announced that he had already spoken on the phone with the winner of the U.S. presidential election and had "big plans for the future" with him.

After Hungary took over the six-month presidency of the EU Council at the beginning of July, the Hungarian prime minister commenced a so-called peace mission. During this mission, he went to Moscow, among other places, to meet with Vladimir Putin, for which he was sharply criticized by EU partners.

Does Trump already have a plan for Ukraine?

Sources at "The Wall Street Journal" report that the U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump, is considering offering Ukraine the possibility of freezing the armed conflict with Russia. The condition would be that Ukraine keep the current borders without returning lost territories and refrain from joining NATO for at least twenty years.

As suggested by Trump's advisors, the plan to end the war is under discussion. It is assumed that military actions on the front line will be halted, and a demilitarized zone will be established along it. However, who would be responsible for its security has not yet been determined. The WSJ source simultaneously ruled out the participation of American troops or a UN contingent in this mission.

In exchange for refraining from joining NATO, Trump is willing to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine.
