Orban eyes EU shift post-ceasefire, urges end to sanctions
Viktor Orban hopes that after a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, the European Union will change its economic policy. "It’s time to throw sanctions out the window," said the Prime Minister of Hungary.
In a conversation with Kossuth radio, Viktor Orban expressed his anticipation for the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump in the USA. "From Tuesday, a different sun will rise over the Western world," he said.
He emphasized that he is looking positively at 2025 and hopes for an end to military actions in Ukraine. He added that he hopes this will lead to the resumption of economic relations with Russia.
- Hungary has performed above its size and weight, and the most important thing now is for Brussels to adapt to the new situation. It’s time to throw sanctions out the window and to create a sanctions-free relationship with the Russians - he said.

He also criticized Ukraine and stated that the policy towards Kyiv should be conducted differently.
"We must also start to deal with Ukraine through a non-war lens. We are talking about a country that is unable to sustain itself and whose economy is not linked to the EU system," he said.
