  • Donald Trump nominated billionaire Scott Bessent for the position of Treasury Secretary in the new U.S. administration—a key role in economic and fiscal policy. The President-elect praised him for his strong support of the "America First Agenda."
  • The son of Norwegian Princess Mette-Marit from her first marriage, suspected by police in Norway of two rapes, attempted to destroy incriminating evidence against him, investigators revealed on Friday. Marius Berg Hoiby was temporarily detained in connection with further accusations from his partners.
  • The 70th session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly began in Montreal on Friday. The event was accompanied by pro-Palestinian protests, during which police intervened. Many students participated in demonstrations with slogans such as "Free Palestine," "Israel is a terrorist, Canada is accomplicit," and criticisms of NATO. Protesters also gathered outside the convention center in Montreal.
  • At least seven Russian mercenaries were killed in Mali in clashes with extremists from the al-Qaeda-linked Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), reported the Site Intelligence Group, a U.S. organization that tracks jihadist activities online, on Friday. JNIM terrorists also seized some of the weapons belonging to the Russians. Reuters reported on Friday that it had seen a video from the scene of Thursday's battle, which showed the bodies of at least five white men in uniforms lying around a military vehicle.
  • One person died, and two were injured due to a strong windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall that struck the Bogotá metropolitan area, the capital of Colombia, local authorities reported on Friday. The tragic incident occurred when a tree fell, collapsing onto a roadway in the northern part of the city. The injured individuals were traveling on two motorcycles at the time of the incident.
  • On Naples' San Gregorio Armeno street, known for its nativity scene workshops, a Christmas market was inaugurated on Friday. The tradition at this location includes displaying nativity figurines of notable personalities from the worlds of politics, showbiz, and sports.
