John Kirby, the US National Security Council spokesperson, called on Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to refrain from commenting on the American electoral process and expressing preferences for any of the candidates.

Kirby's strong stance responded to Putin's comment about Russia's "support" for Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States and a candidate in the upcoming November presidential elections.

We would greatly appreciate it if Mr. Putin would...stop talking about our election, and...stop interfering in it, emphasised John Kirby.

The National Security Council spokesperson also expressed the wish that Russia cease any form of interference in the American electoral process. Putin's comment about Kamala Harris was made at an economic forum in Vladivostok, where the Russian president noted that Joe Biden, by recommending his voters to support Harris, made her his favorite, so Russia would also support her.

Putin also mentioned Harris's expressive laughter as a sign that "she is doing well." According to him, this might indicate a lesser inclination to impose sanctions on Russia, contrary to Donald Trump's actions.

Kremlin spokesperson firmly denies interference accusations

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, reacted to American accusations by firmly denying that Russia had any intention of interfering in the American electoral process.

Few people believe these assurances, especially in light of US prosecutors' accusations of a widespread campaign led by the Kremlin. At the center of the operation is said to be the RT television network, which is accused of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The station transmitted payments to American publicists and influencers for sharing and promoting content that portrays Russia in a favorable light.
