Russia escalates missile assault on Ukraine; casualties rise

On Thursday, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine using various types of missiles. According to the Ukrainian military, one of the missiles used was an intercontinental ballistic missile, reportedly aimed at the city of Dnipro.

The ballistic missile was said to have been launched from the Russian Astrakhan region, which is located near the Caspian Sea. The Ukrainian military's statement does not specify the exact type of intercontinental missile used in the attack. At this time, it is not possible to verify the authenticity of the Ukrainian military's claims.

The Ukrainian side has also not disclosed the specific type of ballistic missile launched from Russia or whether it reached its target.

In addition, the Russian army launched a Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" missile and seven Kh-101 cruise missiles targeting Dnipro, with six of them being shot down.

The missiles initially flew towards Kyiv, then changed course towards Poltava before striking the Dnipro region after another maneuver.

"Since the early morning hours, the aggressor has been massively attacking the Dnipro region. The consequences are still being determined. It is currently known that an industrial enterprise in Dnipro has been damaged. There were also two fires in the city," reported Serhiy Lysak, head of the region's military authorities, on Telegram.

Russia used a total of six strategic bombers for Thursday's attack. At least three people were killed, and 22 were injured.

As a result of the attack, emergency power outages were implemented in several regions of Ukraine, including the Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Donetsk regions.
