Russia targets Ukraine energy in massive missile assault
The renewed massive attack by Russian troops on the Ukrainian energy sector was reported on Friday by the Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko. The Russian army launched a substantial number of missiles into Ukrainian territory, and an air raid alert has been ongoing since the morning.
"The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack. Energy professionals are taking all necessary measures to minimize the negative consequences for the country's energy system," the statement reads.
Minister Halushchenko advised remaining in shelters as long as the threat persists. "As soon as the security situation permits, the damage will be assessed. Stay up to date with official updates," he wrote.
The transmission network operator, Ukrenergo, reported that "due to the massive missile attack on energy facilities, the scale of applying consumption-reducing measures has been increased today."
