On Friday, Kryvyi Rih, a city in central Ukraine, was the target of two Russian attacks, resulting in tragic outcomes. According to the authorities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, at least 19 people were killed, including nine children. A total of 68 people were injured. In response to these events, a three-day mourning period was declared.

The first attack occurred on Friday morning when a Russian ballistic missile struck a restaurant in a residential district. There was a playground nearby, which increased the number of casualties. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the governmental Center for Combating Disinformation, suggested that the Russians likely used an Iskander missile.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the attack targeted a meeting place for Ukrainian soldiers and Western instructors, but the government in Kyiv dismissed this as disinformation.

Friday's Russian attack on Kryvyi Rih was condemned by the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink. "Horrified that tonight a ballistic missile struck near a playground and restaurant in Kryvyi Rih. More than 50 people injured and 16 killed, including 6 children. This is why the war must end," wrote Ambassador Brink on social media.

Another attack and its effects

Later that evening, another attack took place, this time involving a drone. According to the Ukrainian Pravda portal, citing Serhiy Lysak, the head of regional authorities, a residential house caught fire as a result of this attack. A 56-year-old woman died, and seven people, including a three-month-old baby, were injured.

Ukrainian air forces reported that from Friday night to Saturday, they shot down 51 out of 92 Russian drones. The remaining 31 drones were intercepted or neutralized using electronic warfare methods. Damage was reported in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
