Russian drone onslaught sparks chaos and fires in Kyiv

Mykhailo Shamanov, the spokesman for the city’s regional military administration, stated that it was one of the most extensive drone attacks on the capital in recent times.

Tthey came from various directions

"Over 30 drones, approaching in waves from different directions and altitudes, were shot down over and near Kyiv," he said.

In five districts of Kyiv, falling Russian drones triggered fires and caused damage, city authorities reported on Telegram Thursday morning. Emergency services were dispatched to the scenes.

"In the Solomianskyi district, one person was injured at a business site and taken to the hospital. In the Holosiivskyi district, where drone debris fell, the shock wave damaged windows in some apartments in a residential building. A service station caught fire near the garages," the statement highlighted.

In the Pecherskyi district, a fire broke out on the 33rd (technical) floor of a skyscraper due to drone debris crashing. Services evacuated the building's residents, and the city organized two buses for their evacuation. The fire was contained.

In the Solomianskyi district, drone wreckage fell into the yard of a private home and caught fire. In the same part of the city, a fire broke out in a private medical facility where drone debris fell. Evacuation orders were issued; no casualties have been reported so far.

A fire also broke out on the upper floors of a business center in the Obolonskyi district and a private home in the Podilskyi district.

Sirens in Kyiv sounded at 7:13 PM Eastern Time Wednesday. The alarm was canceled after 2 AM.

Crowds at Kyiv metro stations

This led to transportation chaos in the capital of Ukraine. Hundreds of people sought shelter in the metro during the alarm. As described by TSN, "crazy lines formed at many stations. People could not fit into the carriages."
