Russian missile tests underscore global reach and new threats
Russia is close to creating missiles no less effective than Oreshnik. General Sergei Karakaev said the effectiveness of US steps to reduce the combat capabilities of the Strategic Missile Forces is almost zero. The Russian Strategic Missile Forces Commander also mentioned the tests of new intercontinental missiles.
Many of the reports provided by Russian media or government officials are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information war waged by the Russian Federation.
Karakaev emphasized that in Russia, missile tests were conducted toward the Pacific to assess the maximum flight range and confirm compliance with the declared parameters. This is a necessary stage of testing new intercontinental ballistic missiles designed to reach any place on Earth. "There is no place in the world where a Russian missile cannot reach," Karakaev stated in an interview with Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
Is Russia working on a new weapon?
The General also reported on the work on new types of warheads for intercontinental ballistic missiles, including the hypersonic block of the "Avangard" complex and the hypersonic equipment of the "Oresnik" complex.
The commander noted that these are not the only examples, mentioning that various equally effective products are in the final stages of development. However, it is not yet the right time to discuss them.
The key role of "Oresnik"
Karakaev noted that the "Oresnik" test under combat conditions was "an important event in the history of the Strategic Missile Forces". He also assured that Russia and the USA inform each other about tests of ballistic missiles.
On November 21, Russia used the "Oresnik" missile to attack a military facility in Dnipro. Russian President Vladimir Putin described this as a response to the use of Western long-range ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for attacks on Russian territory.
Putin stated that having a sufficient number of missiles like the "Oresnik" practically eliminates the need to use nuclear weapons. According to him, Russia has a stockpile of "Oresnik" ready for use, and mass production of these missiles has already begun.
