Russian volunteers face hefty fines for lost military gear

The Russian State Duma has made a decision: volunteers going to the front lines in the war with Ukraine will be held responsible for the military equipment they use. This decision poses a significant problem for Russians who might have to pay for destroyed or lost weapons. Already, there are initial "victims" of this ruling from the authorities in Moscow.

According to the "Mobilization News" channel, the Russian State Duma decided that military personnel sent to the front lines of the war with Ukraine will be accountable for the weapons they receive. From now on, volunteers must protect both themselves and the military equipment in their possession.

It turns out that volunteers will be financially responsible for equipment that is lost, destroyed, or left on the battlefield, for example, during a retreat.

What will be the penalties for destroying or leaving weapons on the battlefield? The State Duma has specified the exact rates, and they are extremely high.

An entire salary for leaving weapons. This is what the Russian Duma decided

How much will Russians have to pay for lost military equipment? It's as much as the equivalent of a soldier's monthly salary fighting on the front lines, which is at least 210,000 rubles (over 1,900 US dollars). Additionally, a monthly bonus for long-term military service could be lost.

Responsibility for military equipment applies to both contract soldiers and mobilized soldiers.

Soldiers went to war for "easy" money. Most likely, they won't get any of it and, additionally, they will be in debt to the state, commented the authors of the "Mobilization News" profile on the X portal.

The State Duma's decision does not apply to soldiers who are fighting in the war but are not Russians. This means, for example, that military personnel from North Korea will not face expenses if they leave weapons on the battlefield.
