Recently, information has emerged about a new method of combating drones used by the Russians. Defence Express reports that Russian drone operators mount nails on unmanned aerial vehicles. These nails are intended to provide additional security and serve as weapons to help destroy opponent drones during aerial engagements.

The Russians claim to have discovered an effective way to eliminate enemy drones by attaching nails to their unmanned aerial vehicles. One instructor training Russian soldiers on the front line explained to Russian media the role these nails play. After detecting an enemy drone armed with nails, the Russian unmanned aerial vehicle strikes the device, causing damage.

"The propellers would hit the nails, break, and the enemy drone would fall to the ground," he said. The instructor also mentioned that this tactic involves deliberate "hunts," where the drone equipped with nails neutralizes the opponent and returns to base intact. Defence Express notes that this method may only be employed by certain units encountering enemy drones during missions. It emphasizes that its effectiveness in specific situations cannot be ruled out.

The Russians seek additional ways to protect their unmanned aerial vehicles and deal more effectively with Ukrainian drones, particularly FPV (First-Person View) drones. Ukrainian FPV drones are characterized by simplicity and effectiveness. These drones are inexpensive to produce, yet their operators use advanced technologies that allow them to neutralize a wide range of targets—from other drones to artillery systems and even Russian tanks.

Experts from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) emphasize the significant impact of these machines on the front-line situation. Ukrainian drones have already destroyed many strategic targets, such as refineries, military airports, and other key objects located far from the front lines. Thanks to effective attacks, many Russian units have had to move further into the country, increasing the safety of Ukrainian cities.
