- We’re looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they’re going to secure what we’re giving them with their rare earths and other things - said Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists in the Oval Office.

These metals are essential for producing smartphones, electric cars, and other products made by the high-tech industry. According to the plan, Kyiv would supply the U.S. with valuable resources in return for continued American assistance in the war with Russia. Trump emphasized that Ukraine is "ready to do this."

The former U.S. President also criticized his successor, accusing Joe Biden of failing to ask Ukraine for repayments. - He was just giving away money - proclaimed Trump on Monday.

Scholz criticizes Trump

Trump's proposal was criticized by the German chancellor. After the summit in Brussels, Olaf Scholz remarked that forcing Ukraine to use its resources to finance U.S. support was "very selfish, very self-centred."

"It's about Ukraine being able to finance its reconstruction. This is the main task, given the enormous destruction. Therefore, Ukraine's resources must be used to finance everything that is needed after the war," Scholz stated, as quoted by the German daily "Tagesschau".
