Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin sparked controversy by congratulating Alexander Lukashenko on his "victory in democratic elections" in Belarus. Vulin emphasized that there is "no greater honor than serving your nation, and no greater courage than conducting an independent policy."
The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, announced further sanctions against the Lukashenko regime, stressing that the "sham election in Belarus was neither free nor fair."
Remember, Serbia is a candidate country for the EU.
The leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who is in exile, stated that the rigged elections show that the Lukashenko regime is afraid of the will of the people. Belarusian media reported that Lukashenko won 87.6% of the votes, which the opposition called "non-elections."
Aleksandar Vulin and his connections with Russia
Aleksandar Vulin, responsible for cooperation with BRICS countries, has been sanctioned by the U.S. for corruption and connections with Russia.
Vulin, a politician previously honored by the Russian FSB for "exceptional professionalism and contribution to cooperation between the Serbian and Russian services," has visited Russia and Belarus several times since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
