He made his declaration in the Oval Office alongside Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.

- I think we're going to have ceasefire on a lot of areas and so far, that's all held very well - said Trump, noting that the situation is complicated.

The President reiterated that some soldiers are surrounded by enemy forces and expressed confidence that a full ceasefire will be achieved "soon."

He reiterated his belief that a full ceasefire is likely to happen soon, pointing out that both sides currently have substantial weaponry directed at one another, and, regrettably, some troops have ended up encircled by opposing forces.

He added that negotiations regarding the final agreement are ongoing. Then we will have a contract, and this contract is being negotiated—a contract regarding land distribution, and so on. It's being negotiated as we speak, he said.

Trump mentioned that he had recently spoken by phone with Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said that, following these conversations, a preliminary framework for an agreement is already in place, though he did not disclose any specifics.

Will there be a breakthrough? Trump spoke on the matter of Ukraine

In a White House statement following Tuesday's conversation between Trump and Putin, it was noted that the leaders agreed on a 30-day ceasefire regarding attacks on infrastructure and energy installations.

The statement said the politicians discussed a ceasefire and peace in Ukraine. "Both leaders agreed this conflict needs to end with a lasting peace. They also stressed the need for improved bilateral relations between the United States and Russia."

"This conflict should never have started and should have been ended long ago with sincere and good faith peace efforts," the statement reads.

It was indicated that Trump and Putin agreed that "the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace."
