- More than half of Americans expect that when Donald Trump returns to the White House in January, he will have a successful presidency, according to the latest CNN poll. 54% of Americans believe Trump's second term will be beneficial for the country. The December CNN poll also indicates that the president-elect is managing the transition effectively, a view shared by 55% of respondents. CNN notes that 39% of Americans are confident in Trump's ability to influence the economy positively. Similarly, 39% expect appropriate handling of immigration issues, while slightly fewer, 37%, anticipate a suitable approach to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
- In a conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the U.S. Secretary of State emphasized the need to protect minorities in Syria by "all actors" involved in the conflict, and also highlighted the importance of combating the Islamic State in the country. This discussion took place on Thursday during the Turkish offensive against Kurdish U.S. allies in Syria.
- At least 25 people were killed, and dozens were injured on Thursday evening in an Israeli attack on a building where displaced people were staying in the central part of the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medics. Doctors at two hospitals reported receiving a total of 25 bodies, and more than 40 people, mostly children, were injured.
- Starting December 16, a state of emergency will be implemented throughout the Republic of Moldova for a period of 60 days. This decision was made by the parliament on Friday night due to the anticipated cut-off of Russian gas supplies on January 1.
- Estonian police and border guards inspected more than 200 vessels, mainly tankers, transporting sanctioned Russian oil in the second half of the year. Estonia was the first country to begin verifying documents of vessels from the Russian "shadow fleet," the climate ministry reported.
