Ukraine pioneers tech warfare with drone and UGV offensive
According to the latest report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces have conducted their first attack using only unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and drones equipped with a live transmission system (FPV).
This inaugural attack underscores Ukraine's ongoing efforts to integrate technological innovations into ground operations, as noted by the ISW.
The attack took place near Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, according to statements from a Ukrainian brigade operating in the area. The operation was carried out north of Kharkiv, resulting in the destruction of Russian positions.
A spokesperson for the unit stated that Ukrainian forces used dozens of UGVs equipped with machine guns. These vehicles were also utilized for laying and removing mines at undisclosed locations in the area, according to the American think tank.
"Ukraine also continues to innovate aerial drone production. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian officials completed tests of a drone attached to fiber optic cables that will be more resistant to electronic warfare (EW) interference. Russian forces have recently fielded such drones in Kursk Oblast and Ukraine. A Ukrainian drone company reported that it recently assembled a prototype of the first FPV drone made exclusively from components manufactured in Ukraine," the ISW reports.
