Ukrainian drone strike ignites crucial russian fuel depot
The General Staff of Ukraine has confirmed an attack on a fuel depot in Russia's Smolensk region. This depot was crucial for supplying the Russian military, and the operation was executed by Ukrainian Special Operations Forces using drones.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that the fuel depot in the Smolensk region was attacked on Tuesday. The depot, located in Yartsevo, about 37 miles from Smolensk, was used to support the Russian armed forces.
Oil product tanks caught fire
Ukrainian Special Operations Forces conducted the operation with the Unmanned Systems Forces. The operation led to an explosion followed by a fire, resulting in significant smoke. The General Staff reported that tanks containing oil products caught fire.
Previously, Russian media reported that Ukrainian drones had targeted the Yartsevo depot. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed these reports, stressing the depot's importance to the Russian occupying forces.
Reuters was the first to report on the incident, stating that a Ukrainian drone attack on Tuesday caused a fuel leak and a fire at a fuel depot in Russia's western Smolensk region. The information was based on statements from the region's governor, Vasily Anokhin.
"According to preliminary information, fragments of one of the drones fell on the fuel storage area. This resulted in a fuel leak and a subsequent fire involving fuels and lubricants," Anokhin wrote earlier on Telegram.
