"American people helped save our people. Humans and human rights come first. We’re truly thankful. We want only strong relations with America, and I really hope we will have them," wrote Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday afternoon in his statement on the X platform.

In subsequent posts, the President of Ukraine emphasizes his own gratitude—and that of the entire Ukrainian nation—to Donald Trump, Congress, and the American people for their help. He describes the relationship with the U.S. president as a "historic and solid bond." "That’s why I always begin with words of gratitude from our nation to the American nation," he notes.

"America’s help has been vital in helping us survive, and I want to acknowledge that. Despite the tough dialogue, we remain strategic partners," writes Zelensky, simultaneously emphasising that both sides must be " honest and direct with each other to truly understand our shared goals." Zelensky notes that "no one wants peace more than we do. We are the ones living this war in Ukraine. It’s a fight for our freedom, for our very survival." "I want the US to stand more firmly on our side. This is not just a war between our two countries; Russia brought this war on to our territory and into our homes. They are wrong because they disrespected our territorial integrity," accurately observes the President of Ukraine.

During Friday's meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, an argument broke out in which Donald Trump and J.D. Vance accused Volodymyr Zelensky of not being sufficiently grateful for the help Ukraine received from the United States. The visit of the Ukrainian President to the White House ended with Trump expelling the Ukrainian delegation and breaking off talks and canceling the planned press conference.

CNN journalists reviewed Zelensky's statements from the last three years. Their calculations show that since the outbreak of the war, the President of Ukraine has thanked the United States at least 33 times for the assistance received in the fight against Russia.
