Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that he is ready to present his peace plan to U.S. President Joe Biden, the two presidential candidates—Donald Trump and Kamala Harris—and the U.S. Congress.
When asked about his response to Trump's statements that he would end the war in Ukraine, Zelensky stressed that he doesn't know the details and doesn't know what that means. He pointed out that this declaration was made during the campaign period. "Statements during election periods are sometimes not very true," he added.
The first conversation between Zelensky and Trump in over two years
“I talked on the phone with Donald Trump, and he said he is very supportive. We had a good conversation,” he reported. Trump also said that he would support Ukraine and that he is aware of how difficult it is to survive during the war.
The full version of CNN's interview with Zelensky will be released on Sunday.
Zelensky spoke with Trump in the second half of July. This was their first conversation since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
