Zelensky to discuss critical ceasefire details with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced during his visit to Helsinki that he will be speaking with United States President Donald Trump later on Wednesday.
"Today, I will have contact with President Trump. We will discuss the details of the next steps. Our teams had a good meeting in Jeddah. I believe everything was moving in the right direction — except for Russia, which is never satisfied when things go right," said Zelensky.
The President of Ukraine also stated that he expects to learn the details of the conversation with Putin.
The Trump-Putin conversation
On Tuesday late afternoon Eastern Time, a phone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin concluded. In the statements issued afterward, both sides conveyed that the Russian dictator agreed to a 30-day suspension of attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities.
Moscow also emphasized that the Russian President highlighted several key concerns regarding Trump's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, particularly pointing to Kyiv's inability to adhere to the agreements.
The White House statement, in contrast, indicated that Trump and Putin concurred that achieving peace would start with a ceasefire focused on the energy and infrastructure sectors. Additionally, they discussed technical negotiations to implement a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and lasting peace.
