Zelensky: Ukraine needs NATO for lasting peace and security
Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that the United States, Ukraine, and Russia are crucial for peace negotiations. In an interview with the Associated Press, he emphasized that there would be no lasting peace without Ukraine's membership in NATO and discussed the funds Ukraine was supposed to receive from the USA.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that the United States, Ukraine, and Russia are key to peace talks. He added that the European Union's voice should also be present at the negotiating table. Zelensky noted that lasting peace cannot be achieved without Ukraine's membership in NATO.
Zelensky expressed the belief that Russia is currently not interested in ceasefire talks. He emphasized that there is no question of concessions from the Kremlin. The President of Ukraine believes that Donald Trump could persuade Vladimir Putin to negotiate by threatening sanctions and offering Ukraine military support.
The President of Ukraine also addressed the proposal to deploy European forces in Ukraine to deter Russia. Zelensky stressed that without security guarantees from allies, any agreement with Russia would be a precursor to future aggression. He pointed out that Ukraine's membership in NATO is the most cost-effective security guarantee.
Surprising words from Zelensky
There were also surprising remarks about the United States' financial support. Zelensky denied claims that the USA had given Ukraine $177 billion during the war, claiming that Kyiv received only $75 billion. "I don't know where all this money is," he remarked in the interview with the Associated Press.
